Hi All,
I just want to share to you the good news that I passed my Life in the UK test today.
I bought the book a month ago (2nd edition) which cost me 10. Read Chapters 2,3,4,5 and 6 (which the test will be based on) and took down some notes for review.
Then I stumbled upon a website that offers FREE practice test based on the book (both the old edition and new edition). As I discovered today at the actual test, the questions given out in that free website is as close to the real thing. I just started practicing with that website last Wednesday. The website offers you the same exact chapters for review as well so its up to you whether you would want to buy the book or not. And its absolutely FREE, no strings attached. You just register with them online and you can view the study material and take the sample tests as often as you want.
The website is : www.lifeinthe uk.org
At the test centre, I showed them my passport and paid 34 pounds. The test administrator lead me to a PC and set it up for my test. She asked me which book I read so she can set up the PC for the one I studied (There are 2 versions of the test which is based on which book you read: old or new edition. Though effective 15 September 2007 the Life in the UK test will be based on the new edition book).
There are 24 questions you need to answer in 45 minutes. You need to have 18 correct answers to pass the test. Its a multiple choice with some questions answerable by TRUE or FALSE.
It took me only about 5 minutes to finish the test. The waiting for the results and the registration before the test took a lot longer, lol.
It's hard to say the test is easy or difficult. But since I did my preparation, I find it easy for me. Reading with understanding is the key because plain memorization will not guarantee a success. The test questions can be tricky that's why understanding what you read is a pre-requisite.
There were 3 of us who took the test today. 2 of us passed and the other one failed.
So to my fellow kababayans who will be taking this test soon, follow my husband's advice:
FAIL TO PREPARE, PREPARE TO FAIL.
Cheers
Joy
