I think I have ask this before from somewhere out here.
It's about my maiden name, and my married name. When I'm visiting the UK, the British Embassy in Manila (that was when I was still maiden) issued me visas that is only my Firstname and Lastname. Let's say in the name JANE DELA CRUZ. Though in my Philippine Passport includes my middlename (mother's maiden name) MAGPANTAY. In other words, my legal name in the Philippines is JANE MAGPANTAY DELA CRUZ.
But when I came here to settle as a wife, they issued me visas JANE DELA CRUZ SMITH or SMITH, JANE DELA CRUZ. That is OK, there is no problem with that. When I renew my passport to bear my married name, my Middlename became DELA CRUZ and my Lastname became SMITH.
My issue here is protecting my identification. When I applied for bank account, national insurance number, and driving license, it bears the name JANE DELA CRUZ SMITH, rather than just JANE SMITH. It confuses me because it makes my Firstname bears my previous Lastname, rather than just JANE.
My husband's documents such as these does not display his mother's maiden name, nor any married woman display her previous lastname. In which I thought Firstname and just Lastname is the law of the land.
My issue is security. When I buy online paying by direct debit, it uses these complete name, in which by the way mother's maiden name is one of the security kept by most financial institution, and mine is out in public everytime I do transaction or everytime I need to show any ID. And if they wishes to know my legal name, they can just check my passport. It isn't abandoning my native name from where I come from, but it is protecting identity from fraudsters.
What is your thought of this? If it is just right, then I guess I will have to live with it and stop moaning and groaning.
I am just concern.
